French cuisine is loved worldwide and is said to be the foundation of all Western food cultures – while drawing inspiration from all the world’s cuisines. Gastronomy’s greatest hits, in short. And France has not only given us culinary jewels, but it was also here (in Paris) that modern restaurant culture developed.
In other words, a very important food country. And the popular French cuisine offers great variety. It ranges from sophisticated slow-cooked dishes and delicacies such as foie gras, snails, and frogs’ legs, to simpler dishes such as steak frites, which, despite all the sophisticated culinary art, is actually the most common dish in French brasseries. Cheeses and desserts also play major roles, as do wines – France is after all one of the world’s top wine-producing countries.
Find the right French restaurant in Stockholm
For many years, French cuisine has been a natural part of the Swedish capital’s restaurant scene, and you’ll find a wide range of French gems among Stockholm’s restaurants. All over the city, there are wonderful eateries that offer authentic dining experiences with both classic dishes and exciting modern elements. So it’s no problem to get the Paris feeling even though we are in more northern latitudes.
But with so many options, it’s not always easy to find the right one. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to Stockholm’s best French restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for fine dining at a luxurious restaurant or a relaxed evening at a brasserie, you’re guaranteed to find a suitable place. Bon appétit!
Allegrine
The name Allegrine comes from one of the owners’ grandmothers, and it’s the childhood memories from her cooking in France that have inspired the restaurant’s concept. It’s straightforward, simple food made from quality, seasonal ingredients. You can have both lunch and dinner, and the menu is packed with culinary highlights – gaufrette, steak tartare, chicken label rouge, and côte de boeuf, for example. The wine list is, of course, of the same high standard. For a maximum experience, book the “Kitchen Table”, an exclusive table for 8-12 people where you are served a specially composed menu.
Brasserie Lou Lou
The menu is filled with French favorites, from steak frites and entrecôte to Arctic char and cod, along with vegetarian options like an onion and fig tart. Everything is carefully prepared with fresh ingredients, and the wine list is designed to complement the food perfectly. With warm service and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to linger longer than planned. In short, Brasserie Lou Lou is a Parisian gem in the heart of Södermalm – a restaurant where food and atmosphere bring Paris to Stockholm.
Bistrot Paname
The food, of course, matches the setting. You’ll get what you’d expect from a solid, no-frills French restaurant – frog legs, omelet, snails, bouillabaisse, and choucrout. The food is accompanied by large glasses of red wine, and you can also get a nice glass of pastis. In short, it’s a full-blown version of the French cliché in everything from food to atmosphere. So the fact that Paname is slang for Paris is entirely appropriate. Keep in mind that Bistrot Paname does not take reservations, but if the dining room is full, you’re welcome to eat at the bar.
Le Rustique
At Hornsbergs Strand on Kungsholmen, you’ll find Le Rustique – a cozy neighborhood gem where French and Lebanese flavors come together in perfect harmony. It’s all about a love of good food and quality ingredients, served in a warm, welcoming space with a Mediterranean touch. The restaurant has mastered the art of blending two rich culinary traditions, creating dishes that feel both timeless and full of surprise. Think of it as a little slice of Paris with a hint of Beirut in Stockholm.
The menu features everything from French classics like moules marinières, garlic-gratin snails, and sautéed frog legs to Lebanese favorites such as tabbouleh, falafel, and baba ganoush. Choose from meze, hearty main courses, or a generous tasting menu of 16 small dishes. Pair it all with a good glass of wine and your meal is complete. Le Rustique is a place where taste and atmosphere go hand in hand – where France meets Lebanon in a beautifully crafted dining experience. And if you’re hosting a party or event, they also offer catering with the same French–Lebanese flair.
Pastis
Pastis is a restaurant in Old Town named after the iconic drink from Provance. At the quiet Köpmantorget square, in the heart of Stockholm’s coziest district, this friendly bistro offers a fabulous French experience that doesn’t disappoint any food-loving Francophile. Sit down in the cozy environment and let yourself be treated. And whether you’re on an intimate date or have dinner with friends, you and your party will enjoy it.
Pastis serves both lunch and dinner with a menu that changes with the seasons. But French home cooking is always the common thread. With your meal, you can have a suitable wine from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, or another French wine region (the friendly staff are happy to guide you). In the summer, there’s also a picturesque outdoor dining area on the sidewalk, which adds to the French vibe.
Brasserie Astoria
Lovely Brasserie Astoria is located in the old Astoria cinema on the restaurant-dense street Nybrogatan. The place is run by the well-known star restaurateur Björn Frantzén with several Michelin stars on his resume. The idea of this restaurant in Östermalm is to recreate the international glory of the 1920s and 30s, and they have succeeded well in those ambitions. Here you can eat and drink well in an elegant, charming, and relaxed brasserie environment with a welcoming and international air.
The food is top-notch and to further enhance the experience, several of the dishes are completed directly at the tables on dining room trolleys. You can eat both lunch and dinner, and in the fine dining room, a large à la carte menu with both meat, fish, and vegetarian is served. On weekends, Brasserie Astoria also offers its popular brunch. The dining room is complemented by a large bar area where DJs play music while you sip on a tasty cocktail. And if you’re more into wine, there’s also a nice wine bar. In short, you have everything you could wish for.
Crêperie & Logi
At Odenplan in Vasastan, you’ll find the little gem Crêperie & Logi. The restaurant originally comes from Gotland, and they have brought the French vibes from the island and placed them with a bang in Stockholm. Here, they make delicious crêpes and galettes – French-inspired but with their own twist. Plus a big dose of soul and heart. The food is enjoyed in a lovely and cozy environment where it’s easy to feel at home.
The menu offers a wide range of crispy and savory galettes, plus crêpes that are more like classic pancakes. You’ll find both luxury alternatives and more wallet-friendly options, with exciting flavors sourced from both Sweden and the rest of the world. And there’s something for everyone – meat, chicken, fish, seafood, vegetarian, and vegan. Plus many delicious dessert crêpes. If you want the true feeling of Normandy and Brittany, drink dry cider with your food, but of course there are also other good beverages.
Brasserie Bobonne
If you’re looking for a genuine neighborhood restaurant with a strong Parisian vibe, look no further than Brasserie Bobonne in Östermalm. Bobonne is an old French expression for housekeeper, and you’ll soon see why this French restaurant in Stockholm has chosen that name. The friendly and service-minded staff leave nothing to chance when it comes to taking care of you and your company in the best possible way.
The food served at Brasserie Bobonne is timeless French cuisine made from top-quality ingredients, sometimes mixed with a modern twist. The menu has 12 dishes, most of which are changed every two weeks and are presented on a fancy chalkboard – another detail that brings Paris to mind. Of course, there’s a wide range of tasty wines by the bottle and glass to complement the food perfectly. And if you just want to come here for a drink, there’s a nice bar, Bar Bobonne. In addition, the restaurant also has a chambre séparée for parties who want to dine in privacy.
Luzette
Luzette is Stockholm’s most centrally located French restaurant. In a beautiful room by the Central Station, it’s an oasis where you can drop in to escape the big city pulse for a while with good food and drink. Among the tables, you’ll find a diverse mix of guests from near and far – travelers, business people, Stockholmers, and tourists. The restaurant has two grand dining rooms (one of which is heritage-listed and dates back to 1871) and a bar that is popular for after-work hangouts.
Luzette offers lunch, dinner, and brunch (Sundays only). The menu includes French classics as well as dishes from the restaurant’s own rotisserie – always well prepared with good ingredients. During lunchtime, the plat du jour (dish of the day) is served plus an à la carte menu, and in the evening, an à la carte menu with a wide range of tasty starters, main courses, and desserts. Delicious, relaxed, and enjoyable – what more could you ask for? An art experience perhaps? Then you should check out the fantastic art on the restaurant’s walls.
Cassi
The art of French cooking reigns in the kitchen, and the menu offers a wide range of classic dishes in true bistro spirit. Steak Minute with béarnaise sauce, brochette de boeuf au thym, veal piccata with rice, and calf’s liver Anglais are some examples. On the lunch menu, the French can sometimes be joined by Swedish home cooking. If you’re in the mood for something sweet after dinner or something good with your coffee, there are also several delicious desserts. Serving on a tray is the rule, but that’s a part of the charm somehow. Cassi may not be for everyone, but those who like it here are happy to return, and the place has gained many regulars over the years.
