Are you a dog owner and looking for dog-friendly restaurants in Stockholm? Most dog owners wish to take their dog with them when they visit a restaurant, and nowadays, it’s actually not that hard to find. Our four-legged friends are welcome in many places around the city.

Last updated: July 5, 2024

It’s said that dogs and people behave pretty much equally well in a restaurant, and one is always welcome, so why not both… Many restaurants have realized the potential of letting people bring their best (furry) friends when they go out to eat and have even created dog menus at some places. Isn’t this an exciting development of the restaurant scene?

The Swedes – and the Stockholmers – have really embraced this traditional Japanese dish made of prepared vinegared rice accompanied by various ingredients, such as seafood and vegetables. And no wonder we love it; it tastes good, looks good, and it’s healthy.

Guinea fowl, red shrimp, Linderöds pig, cod, rooster, and Iberico are some of the delicacies being served.

Rosetta’s

At Rosetta’s, both you and your pets are welcome

Rosetta’s at Hornstull is a charming neighborhood restaurant that welcomes not only food lovers but also their four-legged friends. As a dog-friendly restaurant, they open their doors to guests and their furry companions, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for all. In summer, there is a cozy outdoor terrace where dogs, and other pets, can enjoy the company and fresh air.

The decor can be said to be inspired by American diners, with galloon-covered sofas forming round booths. The food is also inspired by the American South and is filled with spicy, colorful, and deep-fried dishes. There’s a wide range of vegan snacks that would make even a carnivore sigh with pleasure. A well-chosen selection of beers, wines, and cocktails certainly doesn’t hurt. Come to Rosetta’s, and enjoy the food, drink, and music – this is the perfect place to spend an evening in Södermalm with your best friends, no matter how many legs they have.

Lindvallsgatan 11, Södermalm

Artilleriet

Artilleriet calls themselves Östermalm’s most dog-friendly place, and they do a lot to justify that description. There’s even a separate menu for our four-legged friends, and they are welcome to have both lunch and dinner with their owners. And if you for some reason forget your friend, the menu has a reminder to order something tasty for the dog. The restaurant offers luxurious lunches, brunch, dinners, drinks, and great live music with international artists (every Tuesday).

You find Artilleriet inside the Army Museum, and the kitchen (if you’re two-legged) is modern Scandinavian with inspiration from all over Europe. The bar offers many alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks that are innovative and interesting. In the summer, you can sit outside in the sun, and the dogs can get a nice “bon appétit” napkin around their necks. A perfect opportunity for taking Instagram-friendly photos while they eat their dog ice cream in the summer heat.

If you want to shake your body, Tuesdays are always allocated to live music with a jazz theme, and on Fridays, they have DJs and after work after 19. The food served is not only picturesque but incredibly delicious, and there’s something for all tastes – meat, fish, vegetarian, and vegan. You can enjoy everything from char to duck breast, steak tartare, or roasted carrots. The room is nice and inviting and offers a lovely atmosphere. Expect a slightly higher vibe in the evenings, so your friend cautious Fido may feel better at home in pajamas then, while social Sally can enjoy hanging out with her master and mistress anytime. So, all dog owners craving delicious food for both two- and four-legged – don’t miss this top-notch gem in Östermalm.

The staff at Brostugan are friendly and accommodating and will make sure that both you and your dog feel well looked after.

There is plenty of space for dogs to stretch their legs and explore the surroundings, making it the perfect place to take a break during a long walk or excursion. Should the weather not be on your side, there are also parts of the restaurant indoors that welcome dogs.

The restaurant offers classic summer food such as salads and burgers, grilled on the large outdoor grill. So gather your family friends – and your mates – and enjoy a full day at Brostugan!

Brewdog Kungsholmen

It’s not often you find a restaurant whose Instagram feed is filled with pictures of cute dogs and trendy craft beer, but then you haven’t been to Brewdog Kungsholmen! There’s even a special dog beer for the furry guests. But above all, it’s a cozy place, just a stone’s throw from Sankt Eriksplan. Among other things, they serve excellent burgers and have a large selection for both meat-lovers and vegans. The dogs may also manage to beg for a bite of a juicy burger as they are more than welcome here.

Vegan Mondays, quizzes on Tuesdays, and buffalo wings Wednesdays with all-you-can-eat – it’s things going on all days of the week, and the vibe is great. Brewdog has restaurants in many cities worldwide, and you’ll find two of them in Stockholm, Kungsholmen and Södermalm, where the wide range of craft beers has been well received. The menu is created to fit perfectly with all different types of draft beer – and don’t be surprised if the food also contains beer. At Brewdog, everything simply revolves around beer – many Swedes’ favorite drink. And since at least half of the dishes on the menu are vegetarian, Brewdog is perfect for a group of friends with different preferences. Yes, even for those who can’t keep their hairy paws away from the epic burgers.

Santa Salsa

Santa Salsa - dog-friendly restaurant in Frihamnen
Santa Salsa has a great vibe for both two-legged and four-legged guests

Take your dog on a walk through Stockholm and aim for Kungsholmen. There you’ll find the Latin American restaurant Santa Salsa, which offers South American soul food, music, art, and an awesome vibe in a pleasant environment where both two-legged and four-legged guests are welcome. They share premises with the brewery Stockholm Brewing Co. (don’t miss their beer tastings!), and besides the fact that Santa Salsa’s food is made to be enjoyed with a good beer, they’ve taken the brewery’s taproom, where the food is served, to the next level. A match made in heaven.

The idea behind Santa Salsa is to show Sweden and Stockholm that Latin American food is so much more than Mexican tacos. They’re going for more unknown dishes from South America. The specialty is arepas from Venezuela, cornbread filled with various delicacies, from meat and fish to vegetarian and vegan (everything is also gluten-free). Patacones, sliced fried bananas with various toppings, are also on the menu. Flavorful and super tasty. And obviously, you wash the food down with high-quality craft beer (but your dog has to stick to water).

The concept has been a success. People from all over the city head to Santa Salsa, and the fact that dogs are welcome make things even better. In short, Santa Salsa is perfect for everything from dinners to hanging out with friends and after work. And, as mentioned, for dog hangouts.

The Whippet Lab

Sherlock is the Irish rescue dog that inspired the name of this unique gem. He tries the food before it’s approved for the menu and welcomes his four-legged friends to the premises. Besides a restaurant, it offers a local microbrewery and a “social justice” initiative. Whippet Lab invites you to events, exhibitions, and other social justice things and wants to provide a platform for important public debates.

Whippet Lab offers a good menu with smaller dishes, so you don’t have to choose your favorite but can pick a couple of different ones to delight your taste buds. The American chefs behind the constantly changing menu strive to serve locally produced food adapted to the seasons and with a focus on sustainability. Many dishes are quite daring, but there’s something for everyone at this dog-friendly restaurant in Stockholm. Sherlock is present on-site and ensures the mood is high; he takes his mission very seriously.

In addition to craft beers from mainly the Nordic and Baltic countries, there are exciting cocktails with fresh ingredients. The menu constantly rotates between about 15 different smaller dishes that you can combine as you like, and there are also five desserts, all carefully planned by the experienced chef. The ingredients are simple, but the result is magical. Social justice and delicious dishes, that’s all a little rescued dog from Ireland can wish for!

Italienskan

Everyone knows that the family is most important to the Italians. And the food, of course. So, it’s no surprise that all family members are welcome to this Italian restaurant and bar that you’ll find in a penthouse at Hötorget. Dogs are welcome both in the bar and dining room, and here you’re offered genuine Italian gastronomy from all regional food cultures in the country. Out on the terrace, with beautiful views, the dog can sit and sniff at all the exciting scents in cozy sofas while you have a glass of wine and order antipasti, primi, secondi, and dolci. The evenings tend to be long at Italienskan, but that’s the point of food and family, right? That two- and four-legged people should socialize and share a tasteful and friendly experience together.

There are few places in Stockholm where you are offered such a pleasant atmosphere and view as in the evening sun on Italienskan’s rooftop terrace, called Terrazza. A warm breeze over the city and the sounds and smells immediately gives the feeling of being on an Italian beach on a late summer evening. The pizza oven and grill are lit in the outdoor kitchen, and you can get your fish completely fresh or seafood directly from the ice to your plate. Of course, there’s a solid wine list with everything you can think of – perfectly matched to all the different dishes from the world-famous and beloved Italian cuisine. So, sit down with your dear dog and a glass of wine on the cozy couches and let yourself come along on a trip to Italy – in the middle of the city.

Grodan

Since 1985, you have been able to enjoy high-quality dishes at the French restaurant La Grenouille, nowadays called Grodan (which is a little easier to pronounce). Despite the exclusive offer, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the premises have a wonderful atmosphere. The whole place is impressive in both size and design, and your dog is welcome on the outdoor terrace, in the bar, and in the lounge. The restaurant is open from the early morning. Perfect for a luxurious breakfast, perhaps your first cup of coffee, which you can enjoy in the lounge with soft armchairs and cozy furnishings.

If you’re not an early bird, you can just as well drop into Grodan during the day for a refreshing cocktail at the bar. You can also eat fish, meat, or vegetarian in French, classic vintage on the outdoor terrace. And don’t fear the unpredictable Swedish weather. In winter, it is glazed-in with heat lamps and blankets among the charming red tables, and in summer, you can work on the tan while you eat your oysters, lobster, or a classic steak tartare with a glass of champagne. If you have a dog fond of the luxurious, don’t be surprised if their sensitive nose takes you directly to a table at Grodan. And as the owner, just grab the leash and come along. This is the place to be if you have a taste for the good things in life.

Grev Turegatan 16, Östermalm

Skroten Café & Skeppshandel

If you want to bring your dog to a restaurant in Stockholm, it’s a bonus if you can also walk there in scenic surroundings? Skroten is a restaurant right by the sea, located on Nya Djurgårdsvarvet, next to Beckholmen and Gröna Lund. It’s both rustic and modern at the same time, combined with a warm vibe and the tranquillity of the surrounding water. The restaurant takes responsibility for lifebelts, so you just need to bring your leash, wallet, and a good appetite. Maybe a fish soup can feel enticing in this environment overlooking the Baltic Sea? The dog can, of course, also slip onto the deck and sparkle with his eyes to get a taste.

At Skroten, you can have a nice lunch or order takeaway at reasonable prices, and there are both table reservations and drop-in. Feel free to set aside some time in the evening for a big Skroten burger or one of the delicious dishes inspired by the sea. Here you can also enjoy a glass of wine with a view of the water on the outdoor terrace or sit inside and cuddle while the creaky jetties dance on the sea. The interior follows the sea theme – tar and fishing port are mixed with a unique, modern ship interior. A different place in the middle of the city that’s well worth a visit. The dog can lie down and spy and soak up the interesting scent of the sea. With a little luck, they can get a few bites to chew while you enjoy Skroten’s delicious snacks.

Beckholmsvägen 14, Djurgården

Rost

Of course, hip dog owners also need a place to hang out with their dogs. This place stands out a bit on the list of dog-friendly restaurants in Stockholm, and the name (rust in English) may gossip a bit about its history. The premises are connected to a motorcycle workshop (but don’t worry, the restaurant part is completely clean of dirt and spare parts). Rost is the opposite of buttoned-up fine dining and quiet conversations. Here live bands play, and in addition to eating and fixing their motorbikes, guests can also play pinball games or challenge friends in various board games. Here they like to have things going, and dogs are more than welcome in the “living room,” as they call their bistro.

The menu is mostly organic and has a nice selection of good pizzas (according to many two- and four-legged sources, they are among Södermalm’s tastiest). There are also rusty stews, vegan dishes, and other goodies – and why not a chocolate pizza for dessert? At Rost, something fun usually happens, from acoustic music to music quizzes and meetings for like-minded people. And if you’re really interested in motorcycles, there are nine places for amateur mechanics in connection with the restaurant. The drink menu includes beer from microbreweries and carefully selected wines from small vineyards. This is simply the place for a friendly hangout and perhaps the most relaxed place on the list. A classic Södermalm spot where you can come as you are – as your hipster self or just your ordinary self. Regardless, you and your dog will find both a new favorite pizza and favorite beer. And most likely – also a new favorite place.

Wollmar Yxkullsgatan 52, Södermalm

Café Colette

In the middle of Vasastan, the social dog and its owner can enjoy some French culture. As in many places in Paris, a man’s best friend, the dog, is welcome. Despite the name, there are not only pastries here but a divine French menu, even for those who are a little hungrier. The question is whether you or the dog appreciates delicacies such as goose liver or snails the most? Of course, a classic Tarte Tatin can be perfect after a Sunday brunch, and with a large terrace with warming evening sun, you can both have coffee and enjoy a little more filling dishes here. A glass of champagne for your Croque monsieur, perhaps? And your dog can probably appreciate a bite on a sandwich, merci!

The room is small and cozy, and what people like most about this place, apart from the fantastic food from the classic French cuisine, is that it’s unpretentious. Here they haven’t tried to capture the French cliché; instead, it’s authentic with good food and a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Simply a restaurant that’s well worth a visit. The craftsmanship and love of food is the most important thing – and of course, the love of dogs.
