Stand Up Paddle (SUP) is one of the fastest-growing water sports. The combination of surfing and paddling, where you stand on a large surfboard and move forward with the help of a long single-bladed paddle, has taken Sweden by storm. And it’s no surprise – this lovely activity is probably the closest you’ll get to walking on water. The sale of paddle boards has skyrocketed, but there are also many rental spots if you want to try it out. It’s usually places where you can also rent a kayak.

Besides being fun, paddle boarding is also a great form of exercise for the whole body where you train strength, endurance, and balance. In addition, it’s a simple activity that suits everyone regardless of experience – both children and seniors have fun on a paddle board. All you need is the right equipment (board, paddle, ankle leash, life jacket, and some proper clothing – like swimwear or a wetsuit) plus a place with water – you can paddle in lakes, seas, rivers, canals, or why not an outdoor pool.

Standing up on the board is not as hard as it seems, but it may be wise to start on your knees to find balance. The board is almost impossible to tip over, but if you lose your balance and fall into the water, just climb up again and go on.
