Nestled on the edge of Stockholm’s trendy Sofo district Malmen has not just one but two bars for your pleasure. The main bar, on Götgatan, just across from Medborgarplatsen, is a bit more upscale and subdued than the second bar, Lilla Hotellbaren, which is just around the corner on Folkkungagatan. Here is where it’s more relaxed, with a hipster vibe and plenty of music, both live and dj. Both are popular haunts with Stockholmers so you’ll find plenty of people to mingle with, if you can get a seat.

Scandic Anglais
The bar at Anglais is busy every day and night of the week, hosting a mixed crowd of young and not so young, with business deals being conducted alongside friends having a laugh. There’s a great mix of comfortable seating, as well as small outside area, and if you grab a seat at the bar, you’ll find the very friendly staff more than willing to have a chat. A great location in the heart of the city, with a Jamie Oliver restaurant right next door, means this one is a perennial winner.

It’s one of the coolest hotels in town, with award-winning interior design, so no surprises that this lifestyle hotel is a very popular hangout, particularly for after work drinks. Hotel Rival

Yet another of Benny Andersson’s ventures around Stockholm but while ABBA did once reunite on the balcony when Mamma Mia premiered this place is not an homage to Sweden’s greatest pop musical export – although shows are always on the menu. Instead, Rival is one of the coolest places in town and the bar is best described as rock n roll elegance. Many a famous Swedish face frequents Rival so you never know who you might be sipping a drink next to.

Nobis
Nobis, smack dab in the middle of town, is all about charm, comfort, and service. It’s also where you’ll find Stockholm’s famed Gold Bar, which features a 28 meter high ceiling, an ever-changing and quite spectacular cocktail menu, and old-style ambience mixed with modern amenities. Great drinks, great bartenders, great location. What more could you ask for? Berns exudes modernity while offering a cracking whiskey, wine, and champagne selection. It’s known for catering to a higher end crowd – which isn’t surprising given where it’s situated – but who doesn’t need a bit of glamour in their life? While you’re glamorously sipping your champagne you might want sample something from the straightforward menu, which delivers with style.

Clarion Hotel
At Clarion there are three bars to choose from: Eatery Social specialises in South and Central American fare, with probably the best Margarita in the city. Vatos is a Mexican bar, with focus on tequila and mescal. And finally, there is the Living Room, which is pretty much like it sounds: a very chill place to sip a drink and maybe catch up on the day’s papers. The views are pretty fantastic at this hotel and the crowd very hip.
