Ramen is a noodle soup that originated in China but was refined to its current form in Japan. Today, this simple and super tasty fast food has become hugely popular worldwide, and the secret to the dish’s success is primarily the soup’s deep umami flavor that makes every spoon a delight.
There are countless recipes for ramen, but it basically consists of four ingredients: a flavorful hot broth, a seasoning called tare, ramen noodles, and various toppings such as pork (Chashu), bamboo shoots (Menma), marinated egg (Ni Tamago), and Japanese fish cake (Kamaboko). And because the combinations are endless, the dish is suitable for both meat eaters and vegetarians.

Tengu
If you want to eat top-notch ramen in Östermalm, head to the popular Tengu, located on the ground floor of A House. The restaurant is run by a bunch of ramen enthusiasts, and in an airy and lively space with industrial vibes and an open kitchen, you can enjoy Japanese noodle soup and several sharing-friendly small dishes. They serve lunch and dinner seven days a week, and the food is influenced by both Japan and other countries.
The restaurant’s ramen dishes change regularly, but no matter what’s on the menu that day, you can count on a fabulous meal. The broth bowls are available as either full or half – the latter option is perfect if you’re not that hungry or want to take the opportunity to indulge in the small dish section. The drinks menu offers a well-composed selection of wine, beer, cocktails, sake, and non-alcoholic beverages.
The fact that the tengu is a demon-like creature with less charming qualities in Japanese mythology has definitely not rubbed off on the restaurant staff. They’re super-friendly and make sure you and your party are having a good. So it’s no surprise that Stockholm ramen fans flock to Tengu.

Take Ramen
The menu (both lunch and dinner are served) offers many types of ramen, from pork and chicken to vegetarian options. In addition to the broth bowls, there are also several small Asian dishes such as kimchi, edamame, bao, and the Japanese street food favorite Takoyaki (octopus balls). The drinks menu is also extensive, with wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, cocktails, and obviously sake. Sit down in the lovely room and enjoy the food. The best seats are in the welcoming bar, where you can also watch the chefs at work in the kitchen.
Blue Light Yokohama
You reserve your choice of broth (pork-based or vegetarian) when you book. Then you choose which toppings you want to add to the soup when you arrive. Blue Light Yokohama is one of the few places in Stockholm that serves a traditional tonkotsu ramen (pork), a popular choice for many.
Irrelevant fun fact: The city of Yokohama, Japan, that’s a part of this restaurant gem’s name, has created an entire museum and amusement park around the theme of ramen. Not bad – and a hot travel tip if you want to totally geek out on all things noodle soup.
Stiernan Ramen
You’re walking the cozy cobblestone streets of Old Town, looking at all the beautiful buildings and enjoying the atmosphere. Suddenly, you get an urgent craving for ramen. What do you do? Of course, you go to Stiernan Ramen. This cozy little hole-in-the-wall is located in a 17th-century house, a stone’s throw from the liveliest parts of Stockholm’s historic district, and in the minimalist room with architect-designed interior, you can sit down either at the bar or by the windows. The fact that classic Swedish liquor label Grönstedts distilled their first punch in the building and that Bellman hung out in the house in his time makes the place even more exciting.
Stiernan Ramen’s ambition is to offer steaming hot bowls of broth, flavored with carefully composed tare, perfectly cooked noodles, and toppings chosen with great care. They’ve done a good job. The portions are generous, so you’re guaranteed to be full when you leave. In other words, it’s no wonder that this place is a favorite among those who want to eat ramen in Stockholm. And if the restaurant is full, you can also choose takeaway. In summer, there’s a small outdoor terrace where you can combine your meal with people-watching.
Kapibara
Kapibara serves both lunch and dinner, and in addition to noodle soups, the menu also includes a few main courses and a bunch of small dishes like fried chicken, gyoza, edamame, and beef sashimi. The food can be accompanied by wine, beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverages. The restaurants are small and cozy and combined with friendly staff and the good food, it can’t be anything but a hit.

All varieties are served with Ai Ramen’s homemade wheat noodles, made in an authentic noodle machine imported from Japan, and umami-packed broth.
