Find the best live music scene in Stockholm

Remember, it’s not just Abba that has put Sweden on the music map – we’ve also given the world Avicii, The Hives, Roxette, The Cardigans, and, well, Europe. And so many more great music acts.

Here are our favorite live music venues in Stockholm.

Debaser is for those who like their rock. It’s actually a group of venues that includes Debaser Medis, Debaser Slussen, and Debaser Strand. While Medis and Slussen have recently closed due to redevelopment Strand is still going strong – although there are fears it too will be but a memory at some point. What does that mean for you? Get there as quick as you can. This is one of Stockholm’s best places to discover up-and-comers on the music scene.

Fasching

A visit to Fasching is pure pleasure for jazz and soul lovers

Do you like jazz? Then Fasching is your place. Stockholm – and Sweden – have had a strong jazz connection since the middle of the last century and the mutual love affair doesn’t show any signs of letting up. This is where top international acts strut their stuff, alongside some of the best Sweden has on offer. Book a table for dinner and you’ll have the best seat in the house when the music begins. And once the musicians pack up their gear put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the top DJs who spin late into the night.

Winterviken

Winterviken is one of Stockholm’s most spectacular concert venues
Catching a concert at Winterviken is a night out unlike any other. Set in Alfred Nobel’s former factory from 1891 in Gröndal, it’s one of Stockholm’s most atmospheric live music venues. With brick walls, arched windows, ten-meter-high ceilings, and wooden floors, the hall has a character and vibe you won’t find anywhere else. The Grand Hall can hold up to 500 people, yet the atmosphere stays intimate and the closeness to the stage makes every show feel personal.

It’s easy to see why Winterviken has become a favorite spot for live music in Stockholm, with stand-up and dance events also on the program. Here you can enjoy a drink in hand while the lights play across the old beams and the crowd buzzes with energy. The restaurant opens before shows, and during the evening the bar serves food and drinks. Winterviken is a concert venue where music, setting, and food come together for an unforgettable experience.

Södra Teatern

Södra Teatern Stockholm

Known locally as Mosebacke, you’ll find indie bands, touring rock acts, and everything in between in Stockholm’s oldest theatre, Södra Teatern. The 19th-century building is home to seven different stages, both inside and out. The main outdoor terrace during the summer months is particularly recommended – what better way to while away the night than by catching an act under the midnight sun as you gaze across the water to Old Town?

Stampen

Located in the heart of Old Town (Gamla Stan) in an old stamp shop (hence the name) and modelled after an American road house, this is jazz and blues at its finest. Dating back to 1968 the Stampen stage has housed a lot of famous musicians such as Monica Zetterlund, Woody Allen, Eartha Kitt, and Charlie Normann. From the after work happy hours to the nightly live acts to the legendary Saturday afternoon open blues jam, this is about as authentic as it gets. The best part of Stampen? Some say the eclectic crowd, others say it’s the idea that a big star passing through town might drop in to jam for a bit. We say it’s the atmosphere, which somehow feels like home.

Wirströms Pub

Wirströms Pub, Gamla stan, Stockholm
Wirström’s pub used to be Wirström’s bakery and dates back over 200 years, but in 1998 they changed directions and became the only owned and run Irish bar in the Old Town of Stockholm. Wirström’s is spread over two floors with the main bar on street level and the “Jameson cellar” made up of different rooms and vaults. For the last six years Wirström’s has hosted the Tuesday Blues Jam with Mr Derrick Walker.
