Stockholm on New Year’s Eve is all about parties, fireworks, and more parties. Many Stockholmers like to gather with friends and family in someone’s home, only to venture out into the city to watch the fireworks at midnight. The display is dazzling and the cheers from the crowds infectious. Stockholm loves fireworks and on New Year’s Eve they do it up right. There really aren’t any bad vantage points but some spots are better than others. Here are some of the best – and don’t forget to grab the champagne as you head out the door!
City Hall (Stadshuset) is located just on the edge of Lake Mälaren on Kungsholmen. The setting is magical, with the fireworks brilliantly lighting up the skies and falling gently into the waters below. The crowds are warm and friendly but get there early as the crowds are also big.
This towering bridge between Södermalm and Stockholm offers an excellent vantage point from which to enjoy the fireworks. It’s a very hipster place to gather so make sure you have the latest, most popular drink in your flask.
The entire inner harbour at Old Town is perfect for watching the fireworks but at Skeppsbron you have the added bonus of the giant Christmas Tree lighting your way. It’s always a good time in Old Town so this might be the perfect place to park your caboose for the night.
Set up high on the edge of a cliff in Stockholm’s über-cool Södermalm district, the fireworks are reflected on waters and the views stretch across the city. This is also where you’ll find plenty of nightlife so get ready to party.
Possibly Stockholm’s most charming street (or, if we’re honest, path) this walkway stretches along the edge of Södermalm and offers eye-watering views Riddarholmen, City Hall, and Lake Mälaren from the highest natural point in the city.
Happy New Years from View Stockholm!
