La Barra simply means “the bar”, and the bar is the centerpiece at the heart of the tapas restaurant La Barra on Norrlandsgatan. Around the majestic bar, larger and smaller groups gather to eat and drink well, laugh, and share both food and anecdotes, amongst a circle of good friends.
At La Barra you can slip in when you get a craving without having planned it meticulously, there are plenty of drop-in seats available. If it should be full, just head to the bar, and order a glass of good wine or beer to sip while some other party finishes their food and leaves room for you. The attentive serving staff with their fully loaded trays dance skillfully between groups of happy people. Anyone who has visited a tapas place in Spain immediately recognizes the Southern hospitality and spontaneity.
The menu is full of Spanish delicacies and here you will find classics such as Jamon serrano, manchego cheese, and patatas bravas, but also the house’s own side dishes with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Bread and desserts come from the handicraft bakery Panem in Old town. You will not leave this place hungry, even though tapas are small dishes, the servings are perfectly balanced in size, taste, and presentation. Of course, there is an impressive wine list filled with Spanish wines and naturally, it includes the beverage that goes well with everything – sangria.

If you arrive already at lunchtime, you can choose between meat, seafood, or vegetarian dish of the week. On Fridays, traditional paella is on the lunch menu! Friday nights are perfect for an after-work drink, accompanied by swinging tunes from the DJ booth.
La Barra has joined Water4Charity. This means donating money to Hand in Hand, which helps women in vulnerable countries to get out of poverty through entrepreneurship. All guests pay 2 SEK for the water and the restaurant adds another 2 SEK per guest. This little simple gift makes a big difference.
So whenever you feel like a little Spanish holiday, slip into La Barra and say Hola, order Stockholm’s perhaps best mojito and start an unforgettable evening here!
