Kasai – Japanese fusion dishes meet a fiery club atmosphere

→ View images

Social dinners and a supper club with a clear Japanese thread flirting with modern gastronomy. At Kasai they let you be enchanted by both traditional and innovative dishes that are often fused into delicious compositions – fresh sushi and sashimi, delicate izakaya, and robata with a distinct Maillard reaction This Japanese fusion restaurant and cocktail bar, located in the heart of Östermalm at Linnégatan 18, invites you to unforgettable drinking, eating and partying experiences.

The vision is to let you as a visitor escape everyday life for a while to be pampered with well-made food and drinks, thoughtful atmosphere and decor, as well as personal and pleasant treatment. And they certainly succeed at Kasai.

That Kasai means fire in Japanese is well reflected in the passionate commitment that permeates everything from food and service to music and atmosphere. Whether you want to pop in for a quick lunch, brunch with friends or family, have a romantic dinner with your partner, are – together with the whole college – party-hungry, spontaneously want to have a drink and dance away on a Saturday night, or are planning a birthday party in the form of an exclusive dining experience – Kasai is the place to be.

The city’s first Japanese social dining restaurant opened its doors in 2016 and is currently run by Paulo Fagundez. The inspiration for the concept comes from several restaurants in many of Europe’s and the US’s major cities – Hakkasan in London, TAO in Los Angeles, and Baoli in the south of France to name a few. And the concept is an exclusive and sexy package.

The premises, in which Kasai is housed, are full of life throughout the day. In addition to the restaurant, which serves lunch, brunch, dinner, and pub food, there’s also a cocktail lounge, dinner club, two private dining rooms, and a newly renovated Japanese garden. From the outset, the idea has been to combine top-class food with exciting drinks and cocktails, a flamboyant atmosphere, and stylish parties.

There is no doubt that the wide menu is attractive. The signature crispy rice tuna, where a heated tuna tartare rests on a nigiri cushion that’s sniffed the frying pan, is what people travel to taste. The same goes for crispy shrimp – giant prawns panko-fried to be served on the plate with chili mayonnaise and candied walnuts. For vegans, vegetarians, and guests with special dietary needs, there are finely adapted menus. At Kasai, they put as much effort into the drinks program as they do the food – the cocktail list is an experience in itself. Classics as well as twisted novelties are presented playfully and stylishly.

The outdoor dining area, also known as the Japanese Garden or Orangery, is located in the courtyard and has been completely renovated. The renovation has opened up new outdoor possibilities that extend the season. In fact, the garden is now completely weatherproof, allowing visitors to sit in the orangery all year round.
Dinner is served in the restaurant upstairs. As the hours draw in, the volume is slowly but surely turned up and, as the plates empty, the downstairs is brought to life with DJs, musicians, and a dance floor.

For those who wish to dine in more privacy, there are two private dining rooms – Chambre séparée. In The Lotus Room, up to 11 people can enjoy a well-composed menu with their own waiter and bar, as well as music. For slightly larger groups of 30, there is also a brand-new private dining room that has the feel of a 5-star hotel.

Kasai attracts a large variety of guests. From families with small children who line up their prams in the lounge underneath the shop, to the residents of Ostmalm and businesses who drop by during lunch, to the weekend party crowd that moves around Stureplan as well as visitors who have traveled a long way.
