Like scenes from a glamorous Italian movie classic from the 1970s, Florentine invites you to its exclusive trattoria located at Medborgarplatsen in Södermalm. Chic meets disco, traditional cooking meets modern gastro-techniques – resulting in a multi-sensory experience.
At Folkungagatan 44, the focus is on the overall experience. At the urban trattoria Florentine, attention to detail is a common thread running through the craftsmanship and choice of ingredients as well as the thoughtful interior. Behind this Italian addition are the founders of the successful Basta restaurants, Urban Italian Group (UIG). As with UIG’s existing restaurants, they have thought of everything and more. The starting point is to always offer 100 percent homemade Italian food and drinks with top-quality ingredients sourced from carefully selected producers.
The restaurant Florentine’s 500 very thoughtfully decorated square meters and glazed outdoor terrace can accommodate 200+ seated visitors. Handmade chandeliers from Murano hang from the ceiling and along the walls, and on the striped marble floor, hand-carved marble statues replicate the facades of historic Italian buildings.

The open kitchen prepares everything from small dishes to enjoy at the bar to full three-course menus. The same conviviality of a large Italian family gathering to eat together is evident when the food is served, ready to be shared by everyone at the table.
The gastronomic core of Florentine is the hand-rolled pasta and long-fermented pizza Napoletana. On the dessert side, the trattoria boasts a unique version of tiramisu, known here as lavamisu. From there, the chefs build a menu worthy of an imaginative Italian flavor journey. The aromas of a fresh Linguine al Limone, authentic Carbonara, and crispy Napoletana take guests from the southern coast of the boot to the heart of Italy – the capital city of Rome – to the northern, more mountainous regions of the north.
Let’s also stop for a moment at the restaurant’s own twisted tiramisu – this iconic dessert. The content is the same as the ever-popular tiramisu, but the execution is different. Initially, the lavamisu is protected by a dessert ring that holds it together like a pastry. At the table, the dessert is freed to live up to its name. The mascarpone cream floats delightfully over the pastry and onto the plate. The dark chocolate powder is broken by the smooth white fluff and the flavors caress the tongue. Finding an equally inviting dessert will be difficult.
In addition to the open kitchen, there is a huge 360-degree cocktail bar with an impressive range of homemade drinks. Especially on Fridays and Saturdays after dinner, when the music and pulse are raised as Florentine transforms into a disco trattoria. Hang out at the bar, chew on an olive, or dance spontaneously.
The combination of well-prepared food, carefully selected ingredients and an interior designed by internationally award-winning designers create a unique experience. All interior details are hand-picked from local Italian second-hand shops by the founders themselves and really add to the feeling that the soul of Italy is visiting the south.
