The capital of Sweden has a glorious tennis history. The Stockholm Open, which is now one of the ATP World Tour 250 tournaments, was first held in 1969. That makes it one of the oldest indoor tournaments on the ATP Tour, and last year was voted the most popular indoor tournament in the world. It has been held in the Kungliga Tennishallen except during the years 1989-1994 when it was held at the Ericsson Globe Arena.
Many famous players have participated over the years and past winners include John McEnroe, Björn Borg, Henri Leconte, Stan Smith, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Ivan Lendl, and Roger Federer. There have been six different Swedish titlists in the tournament’s history, and the last one was Thomas Johansson that won in 2004. This year’s line-up has both former champions and a number of young exciting players.
So visit the Kungliga Tennishallen to experience an arrangement of high-quality and great players, both Swedish and international. You’ll definitely see a lot of fantastic tennis. And while you wait, why not try the popular racket sport padel at one of Stockholm’s padel centers.
