The cafe has a long history dating back to 1930 when the two sisters Andersson felt that Stockholm lacked a genuine bakery with quality. Therefore they decided to open Systrarna Anderssons Hembageri (The Andersson Sisters’ local bakery) at Karlbergsvägen 45. The bakery quickly gained a reputation in Vasastan for its quality and service. Since then generations have come to shop the day fresh and tasty bread, the delicious buns and the irresistible pastries.
The Andersson sisters sold the company around 1980 and since then it has been operated by different owners. A few years ago, the bakery closed and the premises was transformed into a café, but the sisters’ inheritance remains in the premises since the original interior from the opening in 1930 is preserved. The sisters’ symbol in the form of a pretzel is also still in the window. The idea is to be an old-fashioned café with a modern twist where Swedish classics are combined with innovation.
“We have promised our customers not to change, only refine. To make things better,” explains partner Stefan Johansson.
Thanks to the long history, the cafe has many returning visitors and a wonderful mix of guests from far and near. Here is a great mix of men, women, couples, young people, and families from different social classes, professions, and groups. It creates an exciting mix, where no day is ever the same.
“We want to be an inspiring cafe for everyone,” says Stefan.
Together with Katarina Lilius, he runs the business since 2016. Both of them have a long experience from the visiting industry and the food experience industry. In total, there are five full-time employees plus extra staff when needed to keep the lively cafe running.

On Systrarna Andersson’s menu, there is a good breakfast selection, tasty dishes and a large assortment of pastries where you can get everything as take away if you’re in a hurry. The staff makes every effort to satisfy your taste and make you feel comfortable.
“We value to be a good host, to give an fantastic service and of course a nice treatment,” says Stefan.
Breakfast is served throughout the day. You can either choose one of the breakfast packages or pick your own favorites. The classic ‘The English Breakfast’ gives you a real English breakfast with scrambled eggs or fried eggs together with bacon, toast, freshly brewed coffee, and freshly squeezed juice. In the French breakfast offers you a croissant, French rolls, eggs, coffee, and juice. Another good choice is the cafe’s freshly baked rolls with different toppings.
If you’re a bit more hungry, there are also options such as Club Sandwich or the classic prawn sandwich. The guests’favorite dish Croque Monsieur is served on grilled Levain bread with cheese, ham, and dijon soup – a taste experience you shouldn’t miss!
The generous pastry menu is centered around buns and here you’ll find everything from delicious cinnamon buns to sweet vanilla buns. For those who prefer something sourer, the lemon meringue pie is the obvious choice, and if you want both sour and sweet, the carrot cake is a perfect option. For vegans, there are the raw food cake Snickers or the vegan carrot cake.
The good coffee consists of 70% Arabica and 30% Robusta beans that have been dark roasted in traditional Italian espresso style. The Brazilian beans have a spicy fullness and tones of dark chocolate while the beans from Nicaragua’s heights give a smooth sweetness. In combination, the beans create a delicious soft southern European espresso.
