Though not widely known for its theatre, Stockholm has its fair share of performances year-round to keep theatrical aficionados going. Summer is the season of free outdoor Park Theatre, organized by the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern.
There are numerous grand theatre houses, from the elegant Drottningholm Palace Theatre, to the marvelous Royal Swedish Opera. The 19th century Södra Teatern is popular among live bands and DJs. Göta Lejon was once a 1920s cinema and now stages musical productions on Södermalm. Among private options, Chinateatern in Berzelii Park and Oscarsteatern in Norrmalm are fan favorites for musical theatre.
