If you look around Stockholm you realise that running is becoming more popular than ever. There’s no doubt it’s an easy way to get in shape, but there are other benefits: you get to get outside and it’s a known boost for mental wellbeing. If you like to run and participating in races is part of what dries you, Stockholm is the place to be in 2018.
From the legendary Lidingöloppet and Stockholm Marathon to small local races, cross-county races, trail running races, obstacle races, races in the middle of the city – you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to races in our beautiful city – and there’s a race for everyone, no matter if you’re a beginner or a devotee of decades.
Here’s the only guide/running calendar you need for running races in Stockholm 2018. See the race’s website for more details, fees and registration. And keep in mind that you often get a lower fee if you sign up early.

Why not kick start the new running year with a real challenge. Stadion Marathon offers three distances – 10 km, half marathon (21,097.5 meters) and marathon (42,195 meters) – starting at Stockholm Stadion. The race takes place on a turning point course of 1,506 metres that you run 6, 14 or 28 times. You do not get many chances to participate in a race during the winter so don’t miss this.

Have you ever experienced the world’s oldest open-air museum Skansen with your running shoes on? Otherwise, you have the opportunity to do so if you participate in Winter Run, where thousands of runners will enjoy a beautiful and wintery Skansen. During 5 or 10 km you get to experience both ice and fire, cold and warmth – in other words an experience you will remember. If you don’t want to run alone you can gather your colleagues or friends and participate in the team competition. And afterwards you can celebrate your performance on a nice after run.
Sollentuna Winter Marathon
The world’s longest marathon (since it takes more than half a year to complete), Sollentuna Summer Winter Marathon, is organized in Sollentuna outside of Stockholm. It consists of two unique 21 km long races around the beautiful bay Edsviken with seven month in between the two (the summer race is organized on August 25). The race has three classes; men, women and mixed, and you run in teams of two people. The teams start together and must stick together throughout the race. If the ice is safe, the winter race crosses Edsviken on up to 7 times, otherwise it will have the same course as the summer race.
Arena Run is Scandinavia’s first and largest experience race indoors, and takes place in a true arena environment in Sweden’s national arena Friends Arena in Solna. Here you’ll be able to run an awesome 5 km long obstacle course that consists of 23 obstacles spread over 6 floors. Everyone can participate, regardless of age and level – from beginners to professional runners. The audience has free entrance and promise a great atmosphere.

Två Sjöar Runt
Två Sjöar Runt (‘Around Two Lakes’) is a race that since 1965 has been arranged on the third Sunday in March. The race has three distances, and you run around the beautiful lakes Lötsjön in Sundbyberg and Råstasjön in Solna, where you among other things can enjoy a rich birdlife.

2.4 km, 5.7 km, 11.2 km, 16.7 km
ASICS Premiärmilen is the perfect race to start off the season with, and to check your shape for upcoming competitions. The race goes on historic land on northern Djurgården, with its beautiful green areas, and is one of the few 10 kilometer races in Sweden, that is qualified as a seeding race for ASICS Stockholm Marathon on June 2. So if you’re looking for a better starting position for this year’s marathon you should make sure to run Premiärmilen.
Ursviks Ultra in Sundbyberg offers 15, 45 or 75 km of trail running in daylight, dusk and darkness. The competition is held on Ursvik’s 15 kilometer trail, also known as the ‘Extreme trail’, and is considered by many as Sweden’s toughest trail running race, where both your legs and head get a real challenge. And since the race is in the end of March, a time of unreliable weather, you never know what kind of ground that awaits you on the hilly course – dry, mud, ice or snow slush.

Easter doesn’t mean just eggs, candy and twigs, but also running for 5 or 10 km if you head to Enhörna outside of Södertälje. The race Påsksmällen (‘Easter Bang’) is organized on Easter Monday every year, and you run on both country roads and cross-country. Perfect for those who want to finish Easter with a great leg workout.
Täby Extreme challenge
Täby Extreme Challenge is the race for those who want to run far. Really far. The most enduring runners run for 200 miles (about 322 km). If you want to take it more ‘easy’, you can go for the 100 or 50 miles races (which we could call a pretty long run too…). You have 54, 30 or 16 hours to finish the race depending on which distance you choose, so in other words we’re talking a whole weekend of running. Are you up for the challenge?

Tjejmilen is one of the classic running races in Stockholm, and this year it’s the premiere of the longer version, a half-marathon of 21 km. The atmosphere is just as great as during the usual race, but the distance is twice as long and goes on Djurgården with start and finish at Biskopsudden. If you feel that the distance is too long, you and a friend can share it in the duo class where one of you runs 12 km and the other 9 km.

In Ultimate OCR you can challenge yourself in a mighty obstacle course in Hackstaskogen in Åkersberga outside of Stockholm. This is an OCR (obstacle course racing) with more than 40 obstacles and anyone can participate. Among more than thousand participants there are both people that’s in it for the fun and elite runners who want to qualify for OCRWC and OCREC. And don’t miss the After Race Dinner where you can celebrate that you’ve conquered all the obstacles.

KfS Kungsholmen Runt
KfS Kungsholmen Runt is a 10 km course in central Stockholm with long, flat stretches in the first half and a more hilly ending. If you want you can run the course twice, i.e. a half marathon – the perfect training for ASICS Stockholm Marathon on June 2.

Sthlm Trail Run
Few cities in the world can offer breathtaking nature and tough challenges so close to the big city pulse like Stockholm. In STHLM Trail Run you will experience trail almost in the middle of the city, with narrow trails, tangled forests, steep hills, beautiful waters, and everything else that you can expect from real trail running. All in a time when spring is in it’s best shape and nature is in full bloom. Could it get any better than that?
Lill-Jansskogen and Fiskartorpet, Northern Djurgården

Strömmingsloppet is a race in Vaxholm, located in the Stockholm archipelago. During 5 or 10 km, you can enjoy a varied course in a beautiful archipelago environment that includes both the cozy city centre, illuminated trails and nice paths along the water. The race is a like a festival with a great atmosphere, and a local market and other nice activities are organized at the same time. By participating in Strömmingsloppet, you don’t just do something good for yourself, but you also contribute to charity because part of the registration fee goes to Save the Children or WaterAid.

Lidingöloppet, in the end of September, is one of the Swedish running year’s most important highlights, but there are also several races on Lidingö in May for those who want a real physical exercise in the spring. The first one is Lidingöloppet Ultramarathon, 50 km long, where you run parts of the famous Lidingöloppet course, but you also get to see other beautiful parts of Lidingö. If 50 km feel too far, you can choose the shorter variant of 26 km instead.

Vårmilen is another of Lidingö’s spring races, and the distance in this one is 10 km. It’s a perfect pulse and motivation raiser on a course that has less hills than the courses in Lidingö Ultramarathon.
Run Stockholm is ideal for those who like running in a real city environment – in this race you run right in the middle of Stockholm city. The warm-up takes place in Kungsträdgården, then you take a course of either 5 or 10 km. And the party isn’t over when you pass the finish line, but continue with a nice After Run at the restaurant and bar Urban Deli on Sveavägen. 20% off on food and drink, mingling and a DJ spinning records create an unbeatable running after-party.
Tough Viking is the biggest, first and most challenging obstacle race (OCR) in Scandinavia. One thing that shows that this isn’t a race for anyone is that the tough obstacles are designed in cooperation with the Swedish commando soldiers. Ropes, tunnels, electricity, fire, ice, climbing nets, mud and barbed wire are just a few examples of what you will face on your way to the finish line. If you take the challenge, you can compete either individually or in a team. Lactic acid and a lot of adrenaline is guaranteed, and as the organizers themselves say: Who Dares Wins!

8 km (obstacle race)
This is a race for those who like to do things with their dog and want to try something tougher than the ordinary everyday dog training. Hundlöpet Xtreme is organized in Ursvik in Sundbyberg and offers two distances, 15 km and 7.5 km. The longer race fits experienced cross-county runners and a dog that can manage longer distances. The shorter version is not as challenging, but still requires a lot from both of you. If you feel that both of these distances are too long, there is another edition of Hundlöpet with shorter distances that is arranged in September on Djurgården.

MilSpåret runs around Djurgårdsbrunnsviken and has one of Stockholm’s most beautiful course where you can spot Rosendals Garden, Skansen, the Djurgården Bridge, the US Embassy and many other attractions during your run. The race is 10 km and offers an easy flat course that you run two times. If you want you can also run in a team with a friend where you run 5 km each. And for anyone looking to check their shape and condition before ASICS Stockholm Marathon on June 2, MilSpåret is the perfect opportunity.
10 km (or 2 x 5 km)
Skärholmsloppet calls themselves Sweden’s best five-kilometer race and there’s plenty of reasons to believe them. Here you are certainly invited on a cool and different course, stretching through both Skärholmen center, high-rise buildings, forests and green nature areas. In other words, you will experience the diversity of the district in the best possible way, and the race is a great challenge, whether you are a beginner, average or an elite runner. In order to celebrate the day even more, Skärholmen also organizes a suburb party where the running is mixed with entertainment in the form of DJs along the course and performances by some of Sweden’s leading artists after the race.
Lida Ultra Marathon
Lida is an exercise area located near Tullinge, and if you haven’t been there has definitely missed something. Now you have the chance if you’re in the mood for running really far. Lida Ultra Marathon is an ultra marathon competition where you can run either 54 or 89 km on a simple and fast course that goes through beautiful nature.

Ö till Ö
Ö till Ö (island to island) is a so-called swimrun where you combine running with swimming. The race goes on Utö, an island in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago and it was also here the sport swimrun was born. This race is called the start of the Swedish swimrun season and given the unbelievably beautiful archipelago environment that the competition offers, one can hardly imagine a better kick off.

VårRuset is a race for all women – younger and older, untrained and well-trained – and you can run, jog or walk. It is arranged in 21 of Sweden’s cities and, of course, also in Stockholm. The race is often described as 5 km of pure joy and no one that has ever participated argues with that. Do a fun thing with your friends, take the opportunity to check what shape you’re in, or see the race as the start of your new running career. And if you gather at least 6 people you’ll get a free good vegetarian picnic afterwards.
Do you want to run simply because it’s fun? Without feeling any stress over timekeeping, to hit your peak or beat your personal record? But still want to run together with others in a race? Then Urban Mile is something for you. This different race is described as a modern flashmob race, and there is neither an official course nor timekeeping. Just pure running joy.
You run in teams of two people, and instead of an official course, there are a number of ‘Check Points’ placed at different places in the city, such as the Royal Palace courtyard, Lisbeth Salander’s address, or Stockholm’s smallest statue in Old Town. There are two routes, about 5 and 10 km, but together with your teammate you plan the optimal route through the city’s streets and squares. How far you end up running depends on your planned race. Doesn’t it sound exciting and fun? And an extra plus is that at least 25% of Urban Mile’s revenue goes to the Children’s Cancer Fund.
With its 3.3 km, Stockholm’s Brantaste is one of the year’s shortest races when it comes to distance, but it’s definitely one of the toughest. In Sweden’s biggest slope race, you’ll run up Hammarbybacken (a ski slope during the winter), a challenge that means a total altitude of 255 meters spread over three slopes. Together, over a thousand participants sweat and fight to keep the lactic acid away in the steep slopes, and it’s a race for everyone regardless of age, gender and running experience. And for the audience, this race is probably the highlight of the year since they, besides a fantastic atmosphere, are offered a magical view of Stockholm from the finish area at the top.
3,3 km (altitude 255 meters)
Many people call Tolvanloppet in Bromma Sweden’s nicest street race. The starting signal comes from the horn of an old veteran tram, and the race then goes through fragrant lilacs in Bromma’s residential areas. During the race, where you can choose to run 6 or 12 km, you’ll also experience challenging hills that raise the pulse, and beautiful views of Lake Mälaren. Live music and a great audience support also contribute to the nice setting.

ASICS Stockholm Marathon
When you think of running and races in Stockholm, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably ASICS Stockholm Marathon. The city’s classic 42 195 meter long test of strength. And this year is a special year, because the biggest marathon in Scandinavia is turning 40 years and celebrates the occasion with a brand new course.
The former two lap course is being replaced by a more varied course, which doesn’t have as many steep upslopes and downhills as before. The new course also runs through seven districts – Östermalm, Vasastan, Kungsholmen, Norrmalm, Djurgården, Old Town and Södermalm. In other words you get a In other words, you get a great sightseeing of one of the world’s most beautiful capitals during the race.
Be sure to be the first on the new course, and prepare yourself for a great festival with thousands of runners from around the world, and a massive audience support that will take you all the way to the finishing line Stockholm Stadion.

Around the city
The name Paradisloppet (‘The Paradise Race’) promises a lot, but given the fantastic environment at the island Ingarö in the Stockholm archipelago, which you will experience during this challenging cross-country race, paradise is a good description. This year, the race, where you can choose whether to run 5 or 10 km, is organized for the 45th time, and there is hardly a better way for a runner to celebrate Sweden’s national day June 6. Take the opportunity to experience one of the year’s most beautiful running races.
Ingarö, Stockholm archipelago
Many people call Söder Runt Stockholm’s fastest 10 km, so if you’re going for a new personal record you’ll have an excellent opportunity on this very flat and easy course. The start of this evening race, covered in lovely early summer light, is in Tantolunden close to beautiful Årstaviken, and then you run along the water around Södermalm and finish at Hornstulls Strand. And don’t miss the After Run afterwards, where you hopefully can celebrate your new 10 km record.
Tjejmarathon is the race for those who want a real challenge and at the same time make a difference for the most vulnerable people in our world. It’s Sweden’s first ultra race for charity and also one of the country’s biggest charity races in terms of collected funds. Since 2014, the collected money goes to supporting vulnerable people in Congo through the work at Panzi Hospital. The cross-country race is open for both women and men, the purpose of the name Tjejmarathon (‘Girls Marathon’) is to question the so-called “women races” by being both longer (50 km) and tougher.
Österåkersmilen has been arranged since 1988, which means that the race is turning 30 years this year. It’s a race for everyone, both joggers and elite runners of all ages, and goes along the beautiful Åkers Canal in Åkersberga where you run two laps on an easy course. Prepare yourself for a great running party that each year attracts one thousand participants and thousands of spectators.
Stockholm Trail is a race in Nackareservatet, not far from central Stockholm, and is a scenic off-road race, where you primarily run in the woods, i.e. no asphalt. The race offers good and tough cross-country running, and since you can choose from three different distances, anyone can participate regardless of trail running experience.
21.5 km, 10.8 km, 5.3 km
Stockholm is one of the 17 cities in Sweden that organizes Blodomloppet, a race that draws attention to the importance of giving blood. On beautiful Djurgården you can either run, jog or walk 5 or 10 kilometers together with your friends and colleagues. And after the race you can reward yourself with a delicious picnic.
STHLM 10 is a 10 kilometer race that runs in the middle of the city, and this year it’s organized for the third time. Start and finish are in Rålambshovsparken on Kungsholmen, and you run around Riddarfjärden where you can enjoy Stockholm’s water in the evening sun, historic buildings in Old Town, and magical views from the Västerbron bridge. A novelty this year is that you can share the distance with a friend if you want, so you run 5 km each. And afterward, don’t miss the After Run with DJs, mingles and barbecue.
10 km (or 2 x 5 km)
Not many major cities in the world that can offer such a beautiful nature as close to city as Stockholm. And the focus of EcoTrail Stockholm is the environment, the nature and culture. The race has four different distances, and the idea is to show how amazing and beautiful the nature is, even though you are not far from the city center. The environmental focus also means that no one time articles, such as mugs, will be used.
Starting at Stora Skuggan on Djurgården, you will enjoy amazing views and experience the city in a way that other few other races can offer. You will, among other things, look out over the sea towards the island Fjäderholmarna, run through the beautiful Haga Park and the royal forests of Djurgården, pass Ulriksdal Castle, run along the beautiful lake Brunnsviken and spot the classic old ski jumping hill next to Fiskartorpet and Stockholm’s tallest building, Kaknästornet. You finish the race in Kungsträdgården, so you will get a good dose of city pulse and cheering people as well.

The race Jättelångt is – just as the name says in Swedish – very long. In this cross-country ultra marathon race, you run 68 km in idyllic Roslagen nature on a course that’s sometimes quite challenging. The competition follows the Roslagsleden trail between Grisslehamn and Norrtälje, and the course offers wonderful surroundings where you will experience both dirt roads, trails, roads, fields, forests, beaches and sea. If the race feels too long to run yourself, you can gather a team of five people and join the relay class, where each of you have different distances (10 km, 15 km, 21 km, 9 km and 15 km).

Addnature Amazing Trail
How about running in the summer evening in one of Stockholm’s most beautiful nature areas? Does it sound like something for you? Then you should participate in Addnature Amazing Trail, a trail race with three different distances where you run on the forest trails between Hellasgården and Saltsjöbaden.

Color Obstacle Rush
Running, obstacles and color in a one of a kind combination – that’s what you get when you participate in Color Obstacle Rush. The race takes the word running party to new heights, and offers 20 different fun obstacles, such as sponge balls, slides, giant inflatable balls, water balloon fight, and spider web tunnel are just a few examples. In addition, there are six color stations where you get your own unique color powder mix, 20 music stations and a party zone on the course. In other words, you are guaranteed to have fun during the race’s 5 km (no timekeeping) – it’s no coincidence that it’s called “The most fun run on earth”.

Run for Pride
Run for Pride is the year’s most colorful running party, and is organized on Djurgården during Stockholm Pride. It’s Sweden’s first and biggest LGBTI race and whether you choose to run 5 or 10 km, happiness comes before performance. Famous artists on stage and several colorful surprises along the way also contribute to the party atmosphere. An extra plus is that SEK 100 per registered participant goes to Regnbågsfonden (The Rainbow Fund), a foundation that aims to create a world with the same fundamental human rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
Runrundan is organized in Vallentuna outside of Stockholm when summer is still in full bloom, and you run 5 or 10 km on a fast course. If you want to participate, but don’t want to compete, there is a ‘Friend class’ where you run without timekeeping.
STHLM Urban Trail
In STHLM Urban Trail, focus is on the urban, to say the least. The race takes place in the middle of Stockholm, and takes you through the city’s streets, alleys and stairs. In addition, you not only pass, but run into and through, several famous and unknown buildings. So in other words, you get a different and unique 10 km running experience filled with asphalt, concrete and city pulse. And afterwards you can enjoy a nice breakfast at one of central Stockholm’s most beautiful places.
Midnattsloppet (‘The Midnight Race’), this year organized for the 37th time, is Stockholm’s biggest running race and the biggest 10 kilometer race in Scandinavia. Each year the 10,000 meters on Södermalm gather around 60,000 runners and a large audience that creates a festival and atmosphere beyond the ordinary. What makes the race unique, besides the atmosphere, is the late start time, 9:20 pm, in the pleasant August evening. You start outside Zinkensdamms IP, and after a nice and challenging course you finish on Hornsgatan. Along the course you will experience over 30 events with different themes, including live bands, DJs and light shows. In other words; Midnattsloppet isn’t just a race, it’s an experience.

Stafesten för UNICEF
Stafesten för UNICEF, formerly known as Bellmanstafetten, is the race for people who rather run together in a team than alone. All team members run 5 km each, and besides getting a fun night with friends or colleagues, you are also contributing to a better world for all children, since part of the starting fee is donated to UNICEF. In addition, each team gets a reward after finishing – a nice picnic box with food and drinks. And after the picnic you can continue the evening at the After Run area where you can have something to drink, mingle and enjoy music entertainment.
5 X 5 km (relay race)
Sollentuna Summer Marathon
The first part of Sollentuna Summer Winter Marathon is on February 10th, and part 2 takes place during the late summer when the weather and temperature are much nicer. You run in a team of two in the classes men, women or mixed, and you and your team mate must stick together all the time during the race. Start and finish is at the Edsviken Art gallery, and then you run 21 km on nature trails around the beautiful Edsviken. After the summer competition, the total winners of the entire competition are presented – an intact team that has the fastest total running time in the two races.
In August it’s time for the second (a race is also organized in May) of the year’s Tough Viking in Stockholm – Scandinavia’s largest, first and most challenging obstacle race (OCR). Ropes, tunnels, electricity, fire, ice, climbing nets, mud and barbed wire are just a few examples of obstacles you have to face on your way to the finish line. As the organizers say: Who Dares Wins!
15 km (obstacle race)
Tjejmilen is one of the really classical running races in Stockholm. And it’s also Sweden’s biggest sporting event for women (25,000 people participated in 2017). This year ut will be organized for the 35th time, and the start of the 10 kilometer long race around Djurgården is on Gärdet. The race fits everyone – whether you are an elite runner who want to beat your personal record, or just getting started on your running career and want to get around the course slowly at your own pace. Of course, it’s also a nice After Run afterwards.

Sigtuna Stadslopp is a race in Sigtuna, Sweden’s first city, outside of Stockholm. You can choose to run either 5 or 10 km, and the race is organized for the benefit of the charity organizations Världens Barn and Kenyaprojektet, your entire registration fee is donated.
Amazing Night Trail
Do you want to participate in one of the darkest and most scenic races of the year? Then you should sign up for Amazing Night Trail, a trail race with two different distances, that you run during the night on the forest trails between Hellasgården and Saltsjöbaden.
Nacka and Saltsjöbaden
10.5 km, 6 km
Stockholm Halvmarathon is a classic and popular half-marathon (21,098 meters to be exact), where about 15,000 runners from 80 nations participate and are cheered on by a large audience. The challenging course is unique, since it’s in the middle of town, and you both start and finish in the area between the Royal Palace, the Parliament Building and the Royal Opera.
Around the city
Hundlöpet (‘The Dog Race’) is Sweden’s largest race where you can run along with your hairy friend, which is often not allowed in race competitions. You either run, jog or power walk, and you can choose between the distances 5 or 10 km around the beautiful Djurgårdsbrunn Canal on Djurgården. Simply, it’s like exercise your dog – but much longer and funnier.
5 km, 10 km (with your dog)
Sicklaloppet is the year’s big running party in Nacka, with start and finish in the Sickla shopping district. You’ll then run 10 km on a beautiful course, where a large part of the distance is along the water next to the lakes Järlasjön, Sicklasjön and Hammarby sjö. At the same time, Sickla Gruvlopp (‘Sickla Mine Race’), Sweden’s largest running competition in a mine, is organized, and offers you a unique running experience 40 meters below ground (helmet mandatory).
Kistaloppet offers a unique and varied (perhaps Sweden’s most varied) course, where you run through the Kista Galleria, along the Stockholm suburbs’ high-rise blocks, Järvafältet’s fantastic green areas, and the IT cluster that has made Kista world famous as northern Europe’s Silicon Valley. The race is suitable for elite as well as athletes and beginners, and the at the same day a popular festival with a mix of running and entertainment is organized. An additional plus is that the organizers have chosen to skip the registration fee (#RUN4ZERO) to remove the financial obstacles and make exercise available for more people.
Running For Shelter
In Running For Shelter in Sundbyberg you run for charity (this year the foundation Min Stora Dag) in a 5 person squad, where the first two participants run 2.5 km each and the other three participants run 5 km each. So gather friends or colleagues and sign up for this fun relay where you both make an effort for a good thing and challenge yourself. In the evening after the race there is also a great party with buffet and entertainment that is free for all participants.

ActionRun is one of Sweden’s largest obstacle races (OCR) with thousands of participants and a large audience. This day Stockholm’s city center turns into a major obstacle course with a mix of fun, technically difficult and exhausting obstacles, to say the least. The race fits both elite runners and regular athletes, and you can choose between two difficulty levels, 5 or 8 km, with 30 or 40 obstacles. You have three attempts to clear an obstacle, if you fail you’ll have to do 15 burpees. Are you ready for the challenge?
Around the city
5 km, 8 km (obstacle race)
Together with the Stockholm Marathon, Lidingöloppet is probably the most famous race race in the city. It’s the world’s biggest cross-country race, and since 1965 the participants have fought through the 30 km on the hilly, tough and beautiful course that requires both physical and mental strength. Lidingöloppet is also included in the ‘Swedish Classic’ together with Vätternrundan, Vasaloppet/Engelbrektsloppet, and Vansbrosimningen. If you feel that 30 km is too far, you can instead run half the distance, 15 km (this race is included in a Swedish Half-Classic). It’s still a big challenge – you definitely get your part of the hilly course, but you’re released from the tough slopes at the end.

15 km, 30 km
The Rosa Bandet race also takes place during the TCS Lidingöloppet weekend. Here you run ten hilly and soft kilometers on the green island Lidingö. In addition to having great fun along with thousands of other athletes and the large audience, you also contribute to the important cancer research. The race wants to inspire physical activity and spread knowledge about how to reduce the risk of cancer through healthy living habits.
Tjurruset is probably the year’s most raw, wet and dirty race, where you challenge your powers against nature. During the race, which is held in a secret location, you will face steep slopes, muddy marshes and wet swamps. Choose 5 or 10 km and be prepared for the tough race to take a lot longer to complete than a regular race. After the course, your washing machine will also face a big challenge…
Nattruset is 5 km and is held the same day as Tjurruset, and also on parts of the same tough course. In other words, you will face the same mud, swamp and deep forests – but this time in the dark with everything that means. Head lamp and fire are the only sources of light you have to rely on among shrubs, marshes and muddy trails, making it a real challenge for all the senses. Ready for mud and lactic acid in an unbeatable combination?
October 6 (at night)
The classic Hässelbyloppet dates back to 1915, and attracts several of Sweden’s best runners. It’s known as the country’s fastest 10 km race so if you want to beat your personal record, this is the race to sign up for. You run a flat, easy and inspiring course through Hässelby, Grimsta, Råcksta and Vällingby in northwestern Stockholm.
STHLM X completes this year’s STHLM Challenge, which also includes STHLM Trail Run (May 5), STHLM 10 (June 14) and STHLM Urban Trail (August 12). It’s a race that changes from year to year, and therefore it’s still an unknown running adventure. The only thing that can be promised so far is that it’ll be 7-10 km long and a really fun running party. Could it be more exciting?
Night Trail Run
Running in the dark is a special experience and challenge. That’s what you’re invited to in the cross-country race Night Trail Run in Sollentuna. You run either 5 or 10 km in the woods with a head lamp and the course is a mix of trails, fields and untrodden terrane on Järvafältet.
If you want to finish the running season – or start winter training – in a great way you should sign up for Höstrusket (‘Autumn Nasty Weather’), the November race that gives reasons for its name. You run 10 km on Northern Djurgården, a beautiful historic landscape that gives a beautiful setting to the race in it’s autumn costume.
Is there any better way for a runner to finish the year than attending Nyårsloppet (‘The New Year’s race’), which has been arranged in Vallentuna since 1982. Here you say goodbye to the old year and hello to the new year together with many other runners who want to end 2018 in the best possible way.
