La Nonna – Welcome home to Italy on Kungsholmen

La Nonna, which means grandmother in Italian, is a cozy family-run trattoria that serves traditional Italian food, prepared with great care. The environment is unpretentious, the service familiar and the food served at this gem located in the heart of Kungsholmen – it’s delicious.

With the Italian slogan and the certainty that “no kitchen is better than Nonna’s kitchen” and with a passionate love for Italian cuisine, the restaurant opened its doors, to the almost always full premises at Fleminggatan 45, in 2018. Since then, they have been providing Stockholmers with delicious classics of Italian cuisine framed in warm hospitality.

La Nonna is run by restaurateurs Nico and Harri who, together with their staff, are passionate about authentic Italian cooking. The restaurant is not cramped, but at the same time feels intimate in true trattoria spirit. The staff slalom neatly between the tables keeps a close eye on the guests and can answer any questions you might have about the food or drinks. The feeling of being cared for and slightly pampered comes through – just as it does at Nonna’s.

The menu sticks to the Italian pattern of antipasti followed by primi, secondi, and contorni and ending with dolci. In other words, delicious appetizers, homemade pasta or risotto, delicious hot dishes – choose from meat, fish, or vegetarian – and sweet desserts. And don’t forget, there’s always room for a scoop of gelato.

Of course, there’s an original selection of aperitivo such as sweet-bitter Negroni, tangy limoncello sour and sweet Bellini, and just as obvious is the solid wine list, ranging from bubbly and carefully selected Italian wines to non-alcoholic and domestic beers. The inspiration comes from Nico’s Italian heritage and, of course, his Nonna, Margarita Danuta, also the restaurant’s chef, whose time-honored recipes are slavishly followed. A successful combination, to say the least, resulting in a menu that meets every visitor’s expectations.

Among the starters, we find cold cuts and creamy burrata. The pasta is accompanied by everything from smooth cream sauces and rich tomato sauces to more light-hearted seafood dishes and, of course, Nonna’s very own carbonara – no need to ask for the recipe here. Among the secondi, the main ingredient gets to shine like the star it is, whether it’s beef fillet, veal knuckle, or tuna you order in. The kitchen certainly knows its stuff. The whole feast is rounded off with the mighty homemade chocolate truffle or why not the fresh homemade lemon sorbet?

Book your table in advance or pop in spontaneously to see if there are any seats available. Are you planning a birthday party or a larger event? No problem. Parties as large as 60 people are welcome at Grandma’s own restaurant.

La Nonna has managed to capture the Italian spirit and transform it into genuine hospitality and delicious gastronomy, perfect to enjoy with family and friends. Hopefully, Il Nonno (Grandfather) will open in the near future to join La Nonna.

Welcome to La Nonna!
