The extensive menu, inspired by the Italian cuisine in New York, has something for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for meat, fish, pasta or wood oven baked pizza (made in an old-fashioned wood-fired oven placed in the middle of the dining room), you’ll be treated to a genuine Italian culinary experience. With your food, you can enjoy wines from the restaurant’s solid collection that you face directly as you you enter the restaurant. And don’t miss the popular weekend brunch!

It’s not only the food that gives you a feeling of New York but also the cozy room with its stylish décor where you especially notice the iconic art deco wallpapers, designed in 1930. The atmosphere is personal and relaxed and is just as good for a candlelight dinner for two as for larger parties.

Il Tempo – Italian restaurant à la New York right in the middle of Stockholm

The atmosphere is deeply rooted; it sorts of hugs the guests. An expression that characterizes the cozy neighborhood restaurant Il Tempo in Södermalm in Stockholm.

For more than 20 years, classic dishes and wines have been served, inspired by the Italian cuisine in New York. Aziz Youssef has been running the restaurant for a couple of years now. However, he has worked at the restaurant for five years, first as a waiter and then as a head waiter.

“We’re a neighborhood restaurants with many regulars, but many others also come here and are just as welcome,” says Aziz.

The personal meeting is a sign of Il Tempo, and the restaurant has about 12 employees. Not many considering that it’s open every day of the week.

“It helps to create the personal feeling. The guests recognize the staff.”

Il Tempo opened in the early 1990s as a copy of the Italian restaurant Gino in New York. Back then, there was already talk of the beautiful art deco wallpapers designed in 1930 by Flora Scalamandré. She became famous for these and the design of the Waldorf-Astoria Hôtel in New York.

Il Tempo’s extensive menu offers something for everyone. What about Tagliata di Tonno – grilled tuna, Panzanella salad on artichoke, olives, capers, and roasted peppers? Or Costolette di Maiale – grilled pork chop on bones, marsala, herb butter, and summer beans? Not to mention the pasta dish Pappardelle Salsa Ragu – ragout on rib, red wine, tomato, herbs, and parmesan. Only the names of the dishes make anyone who likes Italian cuisine very happy.

And what would an Italian restaurant be without pizza? In the middle of the dining room, they’ve built an old-fashioned wood-fired oven. The oven is made of natural materials, and with a unique recipe for pizza dough, from the deepest neighborhoods in Naples, authentic pizzas are served directly from this wood-fired bread oven.

Weekend brunch is also on the program during much of the year and, of course, you can order take away food or home delivery.

Il Tempo also offers a Chambre seperée where 10-14 guests can sit in private and enjoy an Italian style dinner. But you don’t have to be many to enjoy Il Tempo. You can come here all by yourself. Or as a couple, a dimmed lighting at the table gives a romantic atmosphere.

The restaurant is a little extra proud of the solid wine collection. A collection that catches the guests’ eye immediately as they enter the premises – here, many of the restaurant’s favorite wines from Italy are collected and stored.

So the next time you’re looking for a genuine Italian dining experience in a vibrant metropolitan environment, head to the neighborhood restaurant in Södermalm – you won’t regret it.
