Elie’s – The pearl of the Middle East in Södermalm

It is not for nothing that Elie’s Restaurang is called the Pearl of the Middle East in Södermalm. For 25 years, the cozy neighborhood taverna, located at Katarina Bangata 71, has offered Stockholmers authentic Lebanese food with elements of Swedish influences – an incredibly successful fusion.

The restaurant is run by Elie Lteif and his wife Sussi, who both also work in the kitchen. Hot and cold more or less traditional meze account for a large part of the menu – the delicious small dishes, perfect for nibbles, reflect the Lebanese joy of food and togetherness so well.

The hummus (chickpea puree) is as creamy as a dream, the falafel is fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, the baba ghanouge has a distinct tahini taste, the fresh fatoush salad is bursting with colors, not to mention the large grill plate which, among other things, tempts tender, diced entrecôte fried in brown butter, topped with almonds and pomegranate seeds. This is a taste sensation that really shows Elie’s skill in harmonizing the Lebanese and Swedish aromas in a gastronomically ingenious way.

The family visits Lebanon often to find inspiration for the food on the menu. It is filled with established classics that can be combined with occasional newcomers, not infrequently adapted to the season, such as Christmas meze. The fundamentally great variety that prevails in Lebanese cuisine means that everyone can find their favorites on Elie’s menu. Spicy flavors are mixed with mild fresh vegetables. Crispy fried food is accompanied by smooth sauces and stir-fries. Sweet and salty. Eggplant, parsley, lemon, sumac, garlic, and mint are constantly recurring ingredients.

The wealth of variety also caters to different food preferences – at Elie’s, it’s easy to find gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian, or vegan dishes. With the food, a glass of local Lebanese wine from the Bekaa Valley of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache grapes with deep tones and fruity flavors of dark berries is recommended. Delicate!

Pop in for after-work and order some meze, pre-book a dinner seat to enjoy a tasty main course along with a bottle of red or gather a large group to spend. Spend all evening munching on delicious bites from the abundant tasting menu! For really big occasions such as weddings, christenings, and birthday celebrations, Elies organizes parties on the restaurant’s premises and can accommodate up to 30 people. In addition, they offer catering in the form of a buffet for up to 200 people.

At Elie’s, you can tell the food is prepared with love. The fact that Södermalm’s Middle Eastern pearl has existed at the same address, in the same premises, and run by the same family since 1997 makes clear the genuine and passionate commitment and strong will that Elie Lteif and his family have to be able to serve the best Lebanese food. And is not least proof that the people of Södermalm quite rightly like what they get on their plate. Let’s continue to discover oriental cuisine for at least another 25 years.

Welcome to Elie’s!
