Your guide to the Stockholm’s best fine pizza

Italian influences continue to make their mark on food trends around the world. Not least for the round goodies from Naples – one of the world’s oldest dishes that has become a given element in Swedish food culture. Today, a delicious pizza slice is high on most people’s top list. A lot has happened in the pizza world since it made its entrance, and in recent years we’ve seen a strong Neapolitan trend: thick, crispy bottom and slightly smaller size.

Being a city in northern Europe, the Swedish capital city offers fantastic opportunities to enjoy a really good pizza. Whether you’re here on a visit, business trip, or if it was late yesterday (New Year’s Day, anyone?), there’s something for everyone. And if you are a connoisseur when it comes to pizza, we can delight you with the fact that Neapolitan pizza in Stockholm has grown fast. Today, there’s an excellent fine pizzeria in almost all city areas. Perfect if you want something other than the neighborhood pizzeria’s Capricciosa, Vesuvio. or Hawaii. And, of course, most of them offer takeaway. Many also offer online ordering and home delivery via Foodora, Uber Eats, Wolt, etc.

But with the hundreds of pizza options that Stockholm offers, you may need some guidance on the way to find the right one for you. Therefore, we’ve listed our favorites among Stockholm’s fine pizzerias. Boun appetito!

01

Giretto

No pizza recommendation is complete without mentioning Giretto. The team that runs Giretto, on Sankt Paulsgatan in Södermalm, also has the famous pizza place Giro on Sveavägen 46 in the city center. Here, they serve authentic Neapolitan pizzas with a wonderfully crispy bottom and a high level standard all the way. According to rumors, they are also very affordable.

In the cozy room with a beautiful checkered floor, the Italian family atmosphere is rooted in the walls. Here you can have a whole evening with your family, friends or colleagues. And if there’s someone who doesn’t want pizza (why!?), there’s also pasta, salad, and anti-pastis such as caprese and tagliere. You both order and pay at the counter, and Giretto is open for lunch and dinner. No table reservation required.

02

Omnipollos hatt

If you’re looking for Stockholm’s best pizza and are in Södermalm, you have plenty of fabulous alternatives. One of them is Omnipollos hatt, an innovative pizzeria with a high hipster factor and an anything but classic pizza menu. Here, the creative ideas flow in a hipster style. Kimchi, juniper smoked bacon, fennel honey, and goat chorizo are just some of the exciting ingredients you can try. And if you want vegan pizza, there are several options.

The staff delivers great service, and if you get thirsty, you can order Omnipollo’s popular beer. The beer comes from their own award-winning microbrewery, and you can try beers with a taste of coffee, marshmallow, wild raspberry, and chocolate brownie. No table reservations.

Pazzi

In Södermalm’s SoFo on Östgötagatan is the Italian restaurant Pazzi. This is also a place with a lot of Neapolitan influences, but with more focus on slow food, which has become very trendy in Italy. The pizzas are long-fermented and topped with quality ingredients in everything from cheese to flour, where the restaurant uses what is considered the best pizza flour in the world. In other words, this restaurant doesn’t take any shortcuts to the perfect pizza. The menu includes both Bianchi and Rossi, i.e., with or without tomato sauce, and many exciting flavors and delicacy toppings. Pazzi has received much praise for its vegan pizzas, so that’s a hot tip.

04

Café Dello Sport

At Hornstull, on the western end of Södermalm, you’ll find the cozy neighborhood restaurant Café Dello Sport. It’s a place with lots of regulars and a favorite of many. Here you can – not unexpectedly – watch sports, but also eat amazing pizzas. Enjoy a cozy and child-friendly place with a genuine Italian feeling, friendly staff, and good service where you can stop by for breakfast coffee, weekend lunch, or dinner on a regular Tuesday. In addition to the big delicious pizzas, there’s also pasta, coffee, ice cream, and lots of other goodies on the menu.

05

Crispy Pizza Bistro

The name may not remind you of an alley in Naples, but that’s not the idea either. Crispy Pizza Bistro, which has four places around Stockholm, serves crispy, super-thin quality pizzas with locally produced ingredients. Here you don’t order your own pizza; the idea is that you should share it with your company according to the widespread sharing concept. You can choose between classic pizzas, modern fine pizzas, gluten-free pizzas, or vegan pizzas. And if you’re in the mood for some other kind of food, there are also good burgers, flatbreads, chicken wings, and salads.

06

Meno Male

Meno Male is one of Stockholmers’ favorites and has been named Stockholm’s best pizza. You’ll find them in beautiful and cozy premises in four different places in the city. The restaurant’s name Meno Male means ‘thank God, ‘ and with that feeling, the talented pizza bakers create your pizza. Here you get a pizza experience beyond the ordinary.

To get a pizza with world-class taste and structure, it’s baked in a specially imported oven from Naples. The oven is an impressive creation that keeps the perfect pizza temperature 450 degrees and delivers a delicious result in 90 seconds. The dough made of Italian Tipo-00 flour and the pizzas are topped with high-quality ingredients. The menu has a lot to choose from, including gluten-free pizzas, and if you don’t find something that suits your taste, you can also compose your own version with all your favorite toppings.

800 grader

800 grader is founded by real food and drink nerds obsessed with creating – according to themselves – sickly good pizzas. Their ambition has become a success, and today, they have two places in Stockholm. In Södermalm, you buy your pizza slice from a hole in the wall, while Vasastan offers a small cozy room where you can sit down and enjoy your fine pizza on colorful stick chairs at lovely long tables. Together with brick walls and industrial lamps, they create a great vibe. The focus is on the ingredients, and the menu is short but with well-selected pizzas. Salsicca, pecorino, fior di latte, and n’duja – yes please! With your food, you can drink some of their pizza-friendly wines and beers. There’s no table reservation, so if you want to get a spot, you shouldn’t waste any time.

08

Dell’attore

This classic family restaurant in Östermalm is the obvious choice if Roman pizza is your thing. But what does it mean, you might wonder? It usually means a slightly thinner base with crispier edges, and, to some extent, other ingredients are used. The man behind the restaurant and the concept is Valerio Amico. Besides being an outstanding pizza baker, Valerio is also a former actor, which you can clearly see in the restaurant’s interior decor. His uncle Giulio was also the man who introduced pizza in Stockholm in the 1970s. In other words, Valerio grew up with pizza and knows exactly how to create pizza like they do in Italy. Here you can book a table, and since Dell’attore is very popular, we suggest you do it early. And no wonder it’s so appreciated – you feel at home and can enjoy the city’s best Roman pizzas.
