  3. Eating out in Stockholm on Christmas
Stockholm, like much of the rest of the country, more or less shuts down on Christmas, which means on the 24th, 25th, and even the 26th it’s not always easy to find a place to eat in the city. Lucky for you there are some great places that not only serve up fantastic meals, but they also tend to bring that little bit extra to make your day feel special.

When Christmas has arrived, it means that the ‘julbord‘ season at the city’s restaurants is over. So where should you go now? Here are our top picks for eating out in Stockholm when the rest of the country is eating in.

01

Shahrzad

If you’re looking for something other than traditional Swedish food you can’t do much better than a visit to one of Stockholm’s best Persian restaurants. Open on both the 24th and the 25th, Shahrzad serves up a special Christmas lunch and dinner in a cosy yet elegant atmosphere. The service is top-notch and the food is outstanding.
Regeringsgatan 111, Norrmalm/City

02

Rival Bistro

This very hip eaterie is known not only for its ABBA connection but also for its great food and service. The location, on Södermalm’s Mariatorget, is quintessential Stockholm and the theatre-like interior is remarkably cozy. And even though it’s Christmas we recommend booking ahead.
Mariatorget 3, Södermalm

03

Berns Asiatiska

Super chic surroundings and an Asian menu to die for, Berns is one of Stockholm’s most popular restaurants. While you won’t be eating traditional Christmas food you probably won’t care – the food is exceptional, the service is excellent and the décor is simply amazing.
Berzelii park 9, Norrmalm/City

04

The Strand

Boasting fantastic views over the waters of Nybrokajan the brasserie The Strand serves up both traditional Swedish fare and modern classics and is known for its excellent service. With a wintry view on Christmas and great food and drink, you will be enjoying the holidays in style.
Nybrokajen 9, Norrmalm/City

05

Restaurang GOJO

Leave your need for cutlery at the door and instead eat the traditional Ethiopian food the recommended way: with your fingers. Of course, if you really need a fork there is one available but if we’re honest it doesn’t matter how you get the food to your mouth – once it’s there you won’t want to stop because the authentic Ethiopian menu is superb.
Ringvägen 161, Södermalm

Have a wonderful time eating in Stockholm during your holiday visit!
