Good day amigos, I hope it’s all going great during these days of unbelievable tropical weather (haha). Today I am going to tell you -like you already don’t know- about the sweetest and dreamiest fika experience in our beloved Stockholm: Choco Mania café, located in the Mall of Scandinavia.
I found out about this café a few months ago when my friend and terrific fashion blogger Sabine enthusiastically told me about her visit. She knows that I am crazy about food and so she shared her “surreal” experience, using her own words.
Of course I had seen photos of the many Instagrammers visiting the café and I became jealous just like that, like a child that didn’t get their candy or wasn’t invited to a party. You may think it sounds a bit silly. right? An adult getting upset because he hasn’t tried the waffles the whole town was talking about. Well, then I suggest you to go to Choco Mania now. Trust me, their waffles, in particular, are literally to die and cry out of happiness for.
I have been living in Stockholm for almost 2.5 years, blogging about food for over 1.5 years and eating great foods for as long as I can remember.
I’ve eaten anywhere and everywhere. Michelin-starred restaurants, hole-in-the-wall eateries, cafés, bars, you name it.
There are, logically, some bites of food that I will always remember, cherish and long for.
The waffles at Choco Mania are one of those bites, outstandingly delicious. It’s actually quite hard to put into words.
The word “yummy” doesn’t even begin to cover how darn good they taste.
For a honest, impartial and more informative review I have visited 3 times. In all 3 I have tried the waffles and some other goodies and each time they tasted fantastic. To me, that shows a consistence that is hardly found in many kitchens, not only here in Stockholm but everywhere.
Sure, making Belgian waffles does not require advanced culinary techniques, but it’s not easy, I’ll tell you that much.
Choco Mania prides on offering their guests a Belgian Waffle recipe that is 200 years old.
So, for all of us that are a tad skeptical, what makes these waffles so so good? Unlike others, the Belgian Waffle texture and flavor reminisces of a bread that is sweet and slightly fatty, because of the fat content.
The waffle itself is not thin and crispy, is thick, fluffy, chewy and fatty.
When asking Bianca -one of the owners- what is the recipe, she smiles in tender complicity.
Why would she tell me, right?
The waffles have 3 flavors: filled with chocolate chips, with notes of cinnamon and the original. I have tried all 3 (I’m gaining too much weight for you guys, not fair…) with different toppings and gosh darn it what an experience it was.
I said to Bianca that I would not finish them, and each time I did, almost licking on the plate.
The most outrageous one is the nutella dream. I mean, expect no less with that title. For only 65 sek you will be treated to a sea of warm nutella, crunchy goodies and bananas.
Another delicious one -they have 7 combinations- is the Swedish Summer served with fresh strawberries, vanilla sauce and ice cream (69 sek).
Bianca and their team recommend the Luxury edition (85 sek), served with molten chocolate, strawberries, whipped cream and ice cream.
All waffles are priced from 39 to 85 sek.
The offer of Choco Mania goes beyond waffles, and incredibly for such a small place, the menu is quite extensive.
Many flavors of homemade gelato ice cream (29 sek for a scoop, 19 sek for an extra), classic desserts such as brownie, cheesecakes, carrot cake, cannoli, etc; sandwiches, hot and cold beverages.
Another outstanding item on the menu is the chocolate fondue, made with 100% Belgian Chocolate.
The fondue (69 sek) consists of milk, dark or white chocolate served with 2 dips, to choose from strawberries, bananas, waffles, brownie bits or marshmallows.
Bianca recommends the Strawberry Skewer (39 sek), fresh strawberries dipped in molten chocolate.
It’s worth mentioning that the dark chocolate suits the vegan and lactose intolerant foodies.
As a foodie and food blogger, but more as a foodie, I highly recommend you to visit Choco Mania asap, you are in for a heavenly treat.
As I said, Stockholm’s sweetest and dreamiest fika is there, finally!
