Don’t miss Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Maxim Theatre in Stockholm 2014

“A Christmas Carol” about the greedy Ebenezer Scrooge is one of Charles Dickens’ most popular stories, and was first published in 1843. During most of the 80s and 90s it was played in Stockholm every Christmas and a few years ago this nice tradition was brought back to life. It’s the Maxim Theatre (Maximteatern) at Karlaplan that serves us a genuine English musical theater version with British actors during December 2014. And it’s perfect for finding the right Christmas spirit.

The story of the greedy Ebenezer Scrooge has both humor and seriousness, and it’s suitable for the whole family. The British actors (including several child actors) and singers in the roles gives us several well-known Christmas songs such as “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”, and “Ding Dong Merrily on High”.

This classic Christmas carol is set in a snow covered London during Christmas in 1843, the same year that Charles Dickens wrote the story. Ebenezer Scrooge is greed personified, and do not care much about other people, if they can’t make him money, of course. One night he is visited by three ghosts who remind him of everything he hasn’t done for other people and that no one will miss him when he’s gone. The ghosts take him on a journey that really changes him.

When: December 10 to 28
Show: Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including break. The show is performed in English.
