A huge hello to everyone!
Welcome, this is officially my first post at viewstockholm.com and I am thrilled to share with you my tips on all things Stockholm – what to see, do, eat and wear! So, as far as routines go I thought a good starting point would probably be to introduce myself.
First off, my name is Lauren – which is by the way one of the most common names of my generation in Australia. Apparently though, in Sweden ‘Lauren’ it is unheard of. I often find myself having to use Ralph as a descriptive word.. luckily it is a nice connotation!
Anyhow, as I have given away, I am Australian, born and raised by the sun, sand and surf in Sydney. Quite the contrast to Stockholm.. However, I think I can speak on behalf of most Aussies when I say that travelling is ingrained in our culture. I can safely say that I have never been on a trip without meeting another Australian. We are everywhere. Funnily enough though, it wasn’t the travel bug that brought me to Stockholm it was the only other logical reason, love.
Whilst studying a double degree in Psychology and in International Business at Macquarie University I took a semester to study abroad in Los Angeles, California. This was undoubtedly the best thing I have ever done. Coincidently, studying in the same exchange program in LA was the Swede that I fell in love with.
After moving back to Australia for a year I applied for yet another study abroad but this time in Stockholm – for obvious reasons. I was lucky enough to be accepted into Stockholm School of Economics (Handelshögskolan) last January. Then, after the completion of my study abroad it didn’t take long to realise that it was not time for me to leave everything behind in Stockholm.
So, after going through the perils of visa organisation, here I am now and I couldn’t be happier. While I have done my fair share of travelling around Europe, I can say with confidence that Stockholm is definitely somewhere worth putting on your bucket list. Although the weather is most definitely not up to par with Aussie standards, Stockholm has just about everything else you could wish for.
All in all, I am looking forward to sharing with you all things Stockholm from an Aussie’s perspective!
Bye for now,
